Author Guidelines

Registration and Login

First Time Users

Authors who wish to submit manuscripts to Contractus must first register an account through the journal's Online Journal System (OJS). After successful registration, authors may use their username and password to log in, submit manuscripts, track submission progress, and communicate with the editorial team. Registration is only required once.

Returning Users

Authors who already have an account may log in directly and submit new manuscripts, monitor the review process, and access editorial decisions through the system.


Peer Review Policy

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial screening to assess their suitability with the journal's focus and scope, editorial standards, and formatting requirements.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening will be subjected to a double blind peer review process conducted by at least two independent reviewers. The identities of both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process.

The editorial decision is based on reviewers' recommendations and may result in one of the following outcomes:

  • Accept Submission

  • Minor Revisions Required

  • Major Revisions Required

  • Reject Submission


Manuscript Submission Policy

Manuscripts submitted to Contractus must:

  • Be original and unpublished work;

  • Not be under consideration by another journal or publisher;

  • Be free from plagiarism, data fabrication, and other forms of academic misconduct;

  • Fall within the journal’s focus and scope.

Authors are expected to submit manuscripts only when they are committed to publishing in Contractus. Simultaneous submissions to other journals are strictly prohibited.


Copyright Permissions

Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission to reproduce any copyrighted materials, including figures, tables, illustrations, photographs, or substantial portions of previously published text.

Proof of permission must be provided at the time of submission. Any copyright-related issues arising from the use of such materials remain the responsibility of the authors.

Reference Management

Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software such as:

  • Mendeley

All references and citations must be managed consistently using one of these tools.


Abbreviations

Abbreviations should be used sparingly. Terms should be written in full upon first mention, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses. Thereafter, only the abbreviation may be used.

Manuscript Preparation

Title

  • Written in English.

  • Clear, concise, and informative.

  • Maximum 15 words.

  • Should not contain author names, affiliations, or contact information.

Abstract

  • Written in both English and Indonesian.

  • One paragraph only.

  • Maximum 250 words.

  • Should include:

    • Background of the study;

    • Research objectives;

    • Methodology or approach;

    • Main findings;

    • Conclusion.

Keywords

  • Three to five keywords.

  • Separated by semicolons (;).

Introduction

The introduction should contain:

  • Research background;

  • Literature review;

  • Research gap or novelty;

  • Research questions or objectives.

Method

This section should clearly explain:

  • Research design;

  • Legal approach or methodology;

  • Legal sources;

  • Legal collection techniques;

  • Analytical methods.

Results and Discussion

Results and discussion may be presented separately or combined.

This section should:

  • Present research findings clearly;

  • Analyze findings critically;

  • Relate findings to existing theories and literature;

  • Demonstrate the contribution of the study.

Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively and accompanied by clear titles and sources where applicable.

Conclusion

The conclusion should:

  • Summarize the main findings;

  • Address the research objectives;

  • Highlight implications and recommendations;

  • Avoid repeating previous discussions verbatim.


References

Contractus adopts the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th Edition (Full Note and Bibliography) citation format.

Reference requirements:

  • Minimum 15 references.

  • At least 80% should originate from primary sources such as scholarly journals.

  • Preference should be given to literature published within the last 5 years.

  • All cited references must appear in the bibliography.

  • Authors are encouraged to use DOI-linked references whenever available.


Plagiarism Policy

All submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software, including Turnitin.

Manuscripts containing plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, data falsification, or other forms of academic misconduct will be rejected immediately.


Accepted Articles

Upon acceptance, manuscripts proceed through:

  1. Copyediting;

  2. Proofreading;

  3. Layout editing;

  4. Final author approval;

  5. Publication.

Accepted articles are assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and published online through the journal website.


Proofs

Corresponding authors will receive page proofs for final review before publication.

Authors are responsible for checking:

  • Typographical errors;

  • Formatting issues;

  • Accuracy of references and citations;

  • Author information.

Only minor corrections are permitted at this stage.


Online First Publication

To facilitate rapid dissemination of research findings, Contractus may publish accepted articles online prior to their assignment to a regular issue.

Online First articles:

  • Receive a DOI;

  • Are fully citable;

  • Become part of the permanent scholarly record.

Once published online, substantive changes to the article are not permitted except through formal correction procedures.
