Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the criteria that can be used to select surveyors who will conduct periodic surveys of ships, analyze the level of surveyors on periodic ship survey activities at BKI Main Klas Surabaya Branch, and provide recommendations to BKI regarding the needs of surveyors who conduct periodic surveys of ships at BKI Branch. Main Surabaya Class.

Design/methodology/approach: The model used in this study is the AHP – COPRAS model which is combined in selecting surveyors who will conduct periodic surveys. There are three levels in the AHP chart, namely objectives, criteria, and alternatives. The AHP chart aims to find suppliers that match field conditions and needs. The results of AHP processing are separated for each class of company ship so that the criteria and alternatives for each company can be known. The next stage is an analysis using COPRAS. This method is used to provide an assessment of each surveyor using the criteria and alternatives that have been identified in the AHP process. Calculations on COPRAS also use the weights generated from the AHP. In the final stage, different scores are obtained for each surveyor for each class of company served.

Findings: There are five categories of ships studied, namely General Cargo Ship, Oil Tanker Ship, Offshore Service Vessel, Container Ship, and Passenger Ship. Experience in the maritime industry and experience carrying out survey activities are the most important criteria in selecting surveyors for all types of ships. Next is networking and track record alternately ranking second and third. Training and discussion became the last criteria that were considered important by the respondents. MN is the surveyor who gets the highest utility score for all types of surveys. This shows that the MN surveyor is the most suitable for all types of surveys available. AC and TB surveyors have ranked second and third alternately for the magnitude of utility value. Followed by other surveyors. Recommendations that can be given to companies regarding the assignment of surveyors who handle periodic surveys of ships at shipping companies in East Java are: The company already has criteria for the selection of surveyors, but the company can use the utility value generated from this study as consideration for selecting surveyors, and the company needs to evaluate the surveyor selection process that has been implemented in the company.
