The Effect of Competence and Person–Job Fit on Employee Performance in Supporting Organizational Performance: Evidence from a Manufacturing Company in Cirebon
Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to examine the effect of competence and person–job fit on employee performance in medium-scale manufacturing companies in Cirebon.
Design/methodology/approach: This study employs a quantitative approach with an associative research design. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 128 employees and analyzed using multiple linear regression.
Findings: The results indicate that competence has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. This suggests that higher levels of competence, including knowledge, skills, and work attitudes, enable employees to perform tasks more effectively, reduce errors, and enhance productivity. In addition, person–job fit also has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. This indicates that a higher level of alignment between individual abilities, interests, and job demands leads to greater work comfort, higher motivation, and more optimal performance. Simultaneously, competence and person–job fit contribute significantly to improving employee performance, which ultimately supports overall organizational performance.
